Medical officer, intensifies wins amidst Covid-19

To protect our health against Coronavirus, the medical officer of the City School Division of Dasmariñas intensified the Wash In School (WINS) program of the Department of Education (DepEd).

Dr. Brenda Igos, medical officer III said the elements of DepEd WINS program must be intensified to protect our health against COVID-19 whether in school or at home.

She said hand hygiene or personal hygiene must be regularly observed like taking a bath and handwashing and follow the seven steps of handwashing.

She added all schools must have handwashing facility. In absence of water in the school, she suggested to use 70 percent Isoprophyl Ethyl alcohol.

Dr. Igos required all schools to use the disinfectant solution in cleaning the table, chairs/desks and floors and proper disposal of garbage through segregation to maintain the school cleanliness .

She also said that all schools must have a safe and regular water supply and undergo water analysis twice a year.

Ways to combat COVID-19

Regular handwashing is one way to avoid COVID-19. Making it a habit you can protect your life from death. A seven handwashing steps can help you protect from a pandemic.

The following are the steps of handwashing according to the Department of Health.

a. Wet hands with water and apply soap.

b. Lather soap; rub hands together, palm to palm and in between fingers.

c. Rub back one hand with the palm of your other hand.

d. Rub fingertips of each hand in opposite palm.

e. Rub each thumb clasped in opposite hand.

f. Rub both palms with fingertips then rinse thoroughly with running water.

Those simple and easy steps are enough to protect your life against COVID-19 pandemic. Don't be lazy to wash your hands always. Don't risk your life in a critical situation for not doing handwashing regularly.

A World Health Organization (WHO) defined Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.

WHO said infected people will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, and those with medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.

WHO elaborated the spreads of the virus primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

As of June 3, 2020, the world's confirmed cases were 6,287,771 with 379,941 confirmed deaths.

The Department of Health (DOH) stated that the total country's confirmed cases were 19,749 while the confirmed deaths were 974.

In Dasmariñas City, there are 64 confirmed cases with 9 total deaths.

Everyone is advised to follow the precautionary measures of the national and local government to protect and fight Coronavirus.

As per advised by the government and health experts, people must regularly follow the physical distancing, wear facemask and observe the personal hygienic measures.

Observe also the General Community Quarantine measures. Under the GCQ rules, below 20 years old must stay inside their house.
